Old Suttonian Association

The Suttonian Bulletin

The Suttonian Bulletin is the annual publication of the Association and is issued free to Life Members. As well as containing dates of up and coming events, the magazine also contains news of Old Boys throughout the world, photographs of various teams from the past, in which you may recognise yourself, and reminiscences - basically, a forum for all things Sutton.

It also contains an application form for membership should one stumble upon an Old Boy who is not yet a member!

The 2010 Edition

The 2010 edition has now been distributed.  If you are a member of the Association but have not received a copy, please check if your name is on our Lost Members list first and then report your address or change of address to the Membership Secretary, John Harrington.

en Squance in his editorial points out that there is a change of publishing schedule this year.  The 2011 edition will revert to July August.  Along with all the usual reports from the Officers, there is a short piece about the very successful Annual Dinner held in November 2009 and the Rowfant Reunion as well.  Andrew Hill, the promoter of the 100+ Club gives a list of all the winners during the past year.  Were you a school prefect in 1955 to 1957?  You may be in one of the photos of prefects included in this edition.

The popular "At Random" section includes references to Roy Wallen, Ivor Hosgood MBE, Maurice Dart, Ivor Hocking, Hubert Gale, Denis Richards, Geoffrey Gilbert, Pete Richards, John and Stanley Webb, Wally Lloyd, Ken Hookway, Jim Dennis, Ken Coad, our two Mayors, Ken Foster (Plymouth) and John Winterbottom (Exeter), Brian Searle, Graham Curnow, and Barry Dell.  Incidentally, Jim Dennis has submitted some early scouting photos taken at St Austell in 1944 and some other pictures of those evacuated to that Cornish town.

There is a feature about our Mayor of Exeter, John Winterbottom, with several good photographs.

Ron Waterfield (1943-45) has written from Canada and mentions many of his school-chums, including Cliff Trethewey.

New members who are welcomed to the Association are Anthony Edward Hawk, Christopher Bertram James, Kevin Treweeks, Tony Kevin Montgomery, and the two sons of long-time committee member, George Nicholle.

Another feature in the 2010 Bulletin is a copy of the Distribution of Prizes and Certificates in the Central Hall on Tuesday March 18th 1958.

The Bulletin ends, as usual, with the Obituaries: Doctor James Rowe, Laurence Lyon, Albert Nelmes, Verley James Wallen, and Bryan Walters.  Others whose deaths are recorded are AC J Smyth, E W Haskell, R E Nichoson, G Canby and C Hooper.

We on the committee hope you will find something of interest in the 2010 Suttonian Bulletin.

Please remember to keep either the Honorary Membership Secretary up-to-date with any changes of address otherwise we cannot guarantee that you will receive your annual magazine.
