Old Suttonian Association The Suttonian Bulletin The Suttonian Bulletin is the annual publication of the Association and is issued free to Life Members. As well as containing dates of up and coming events, the magazine also contains news of Old Boys throughout the world, photographs of various teams from the past, in which you may recognise yourself, and reminiscences - basically, a forum for all things Sutton. It also contains an application form for membership should one stumble upon an Old Boy who is not yet a member! The 2008 Edition The 2008 edition has been published and has now been distributed. In addition to the usual items, like the report of the 2007 Annual General Meeting, the reports from the Officers and the Balance Sheet, there is a welcome to new members Austin Catchpole (1953-61); Ivor Horton (1940-45); Edward Tapper (1945-49); Peter Warren (1942-49); Steven Perry (1969-75); Ken Wigfield (1954-62); John Graham (1946-51); James Dennis (1939-45); Robert Marks (1968-72); Ian Douglas (1969-76); Graham Curnow (1946-51); Nicholas Figures (1975-82); Gary Rosevear (1977-82) and Montague Pomeroy (1938-42). The Rowfant Reunion was held on April 28th 2007 without one of its staunchest supporters, Jack Pope. Fourteen former pupils and two former masters attended. There are reminiscences from Brian Searle (1945-52) while Jim Dennis and Ivor Horton recall their days in exile at St Austell. A list of those Old Sutts who attended the Annual Dinner in 2007 is also included. There was a good selection from the 1930s to the 1970s although the 1950s group was a bit smaller than the others. In the At Random section are mentioned Jerry Kirkby, Wilf Harrison, the Reverend John Fairweather-Tall, W Glenn Howells, John Tozer, Edward Acford, Derek Roberts and the Genial Genealogy service provided to Members by Tom Jewell. Both Jack Pope's son, John, and daughter, Sarah, have contributed tributes to their late father and Bob Brennan describes the Funeral Service. Other Obituaries include John Philp, John Byrne (1936-40) and James Sidney Gosling. Please remember to keep either the Honorary Membership Secretary up-to-date with any changes of address otherwise we cannot guarantee that you will receive your annual magazine. |
